We think our beloved Interns who get paid only with companionship and learning are the embodiment of all that is well with our community.
Mia (right), a high school student, is on a leadership track, and contributing to our brainstorming, planning, and reaching out to community members to see how they are thinking/feeling about climate change: flooding, sea level rise, heat, bugs...and how all this is affecting their lives and businesses. She's also working with the Board of Directors (especially Zoe Wu) to establish and launch the Alliance Youth Council.
Riley Matto and James Gagne are graduates from Eastern CT State University, where they met. Riley's background is in Environmental Science, so she is helping us to create our Living Atlas, where people will be able to access all kinds of information about our Watershed, as well as to establish a fresh-water testing system with the support of Alliance Director Betsy Graham, Save the Sound, and equipment from the EPA.
James is an English and Communications grad who is helping to generate content for our social media and news, as well as learning to write grants (as we are learning!).
All three pitched in to help when we needed a rapid response team to unchoke the inlet on Holmes Street!!
