Upcoming Events! Come to COEEA! Maggie Featured Speaker, Next Driftwood Conversation, EPA Webinar on Water protection tools

Updated: Dec 2

Are you teaching and learning outdoors? Or wondering about how to activate hope in the era of climate change? Would you like to experience how learning and planning and enacting with young people heals and empowers whole communities? Do you live, work, or play in southern New England? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we have an event for you! COEEA (CT Outdoor and Environmental Educators Association) is hosting an all-day, in-person, workshop conference in Suffield, CT on December 7. Our very own Executive Director and Board Chair, Maggie Favretti will be the Keynote Speaker, where she will share her experiences conspiring with younger learners, community leaders, and colleagues from around the world to democratize and deepen learning and to build agency for caring and transformative resilience. This work builds off of her new award winning book Learning in the Age of Climate Disasters: Empowering Teachers and Students Beyond Futurephobia. In addition to sharing her strategies for addressing “futurephobia," Maggie seeks to inspire others with an offering of Regenerative Learning strategies rooted in nature’s principles for repair and redesign, and a mutual exploration of methods for co-empowering youth creativity, agency, and hope. Her guiding question? What kind of ancestor will I be?

In addition to Alliance co-founder and Director Maggie Favretti's keynote speech, other Alliance members including our youth Board Director Zoe Wu will be participating and leading workshops.

This year’s theme is “Building a Resilient Future in a Changing World,” tackling both internal and external resilience. From a session by a founding member of MA Governor Maura Healey's advisory Youth Climate Council, Ollie Perrault - exploring how adults and youth can navigate eco-grief and cultivate hope - to the collaborative and responsive elements of the new NAAEE (North American Association for Envriomental Education) Educating for Climate Action and Justice guidelines, to just having a safe space to discuss individual and collective anxiety regarding the challenge of climate change, this conference has something for everyone.

It's not too late to register! You can find out more about our speakers and the conference itself at https://www.coeea.org/annual-conference

Other Events on our Alliance Radar:

December 8th, at 7pm: Online Conversation Circle on "Activating Hope" where we will share strategies and build relationship to address the intersecting challenges identified in our last Driftwood Conversation on flooding and more. Hope without the means to act together is just wishful thinking. Let's discuss the why and how to act together in these uncertain times.
